Congregational Covenant
As a people seeking God's will and way for us as individuals and as a
congregation, we covenant together and commit ourselves to the following:
We commit ourselves:
1. To prayer, meditation and regular Bible reading, ready to obey its teachings,
growing and walking daily in the Lord, and in personal holiness.
2. To actively participate in the life of the congregation through regular
attendance and in worship, Bible study, prayer, fellowship, nurture, admonition
and service, seeking to promote the spiritual life and work of the church by
word and example.
3. To mutual accountability within the congregation, both in giving and
receiving counsel and correction, renouncing sin in all of its forms, and in the
discernment of both individual and corporate decisions in the spirit of openness
and love.
4. To discovering and developing spiritual gifts, using them for effective
ministry within the church, as called, and to generous giving, each in
proportion to ability to build up the body of Christ.
5. To recognize both singleness and marriage as a calling from the Lord, and to
support each other in developing and maintaining Christ-centered, healthy family
relationships, where the husband assumes his responsibility to provide spiritual
leadership, and the wife assumes her responsibility to support such efforts as a
unified team, and to oppose that which causes separation of those relationships.
6. To assist in the nurture of the children of the congregation, serving as role
models for them, giving them time, attention, guidance and love in helping them
to be valued and useful in the church.
7. To support one another in Christian love, sharing mutual joys and concerns
within the congregation, and in helping to carry the burdens of those with
needs.
8. To practice love, reconciliation and peacemaking with others, abstain from
violent actions, and oppose participation in war, euthanasia, abortion and other
acts that destroy human life.
9. To seek to work together in harmony while recognizing certain differences
among us, to search the scriptures and to seek and hear the voice of the Spirit
for guidance with openness and love, striving for unity in the faith and in the
knowledge of Jesus Christ.
10. To promote justice and righteousness in the name of Christ to those who
experience spiritual, social, economic, racial, family, and other unrighteous
conflicts and sufferings, and stand against injustice, prejudice and ungodly
discrimination, applying the golden rule in our attitudes and actions.
11. To good stewardship of all that God has entrusted to us in time, talent,
material possessions, and money, realizing that God is Creator of the earth and
its resources and that we share as stewards in these resources for both present
and future generations.
12. To work to extend the Gospel to our community and the world by words and
through acts of love, service, giving, inviting individuals to faith in Christ
and membership in the church.
13. To demonstrating love and acceptance of each other as brothers and sisters
in Christ, and in extending warm welcome and hospitality toward our visitors.
